All OC families are invited to join the OC family e-mail discussion group hosted by Yahoo! Groups' free, easy-to-use email group service.
This discussion group arose from OC parents interested in making deeper and more meaningful connections.
To join, ask Barbara to add you to the list. Please give her your e-mail address and full name.
You will then receive an invitation to join this email group from yahoogroups.com. Yahoogroups is probably the easiest email group to join. There will be very specific instructions on how to join in the invitation. Once you become a member, you will begin receiving emails and can post emails. This is a closed group that is by invitation only to families of Open Connections.
The following guidelines apply to the group:
The primary purpose of the list is to create an opportunity for dialoguing about educational issues relevant to members of the Open Connections community.
Our definition of a dialogue is a type of discourse which invites self and group exploration in search of useful information and insights.
A dialogue is NOT a discussion, in which participants make and defend a point with the intention of convincing others.
Rather, it is an opportunity to share one’s perspective in a way that invites others to do the same in a joint search for new and valuable ideas.
Hence, the expression and coexistence of diverse viewpoints is encouraged while tolerance and civility are expected.
Posts which are primarily argumentative or defensive or otherwise focused on proving one perspective "right" or proving another "wrong" tend to undermine the supportive quality of the list and will invite a friendly reminder from us to remember the goal of mutual support.
If you have an issue with another member of this list, either address it privately or contact Barbara Kidder in the OC office at
610-459-3366
or send Barbara an e-mail
Thank you for your cooperation with the guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns about this group, please feel free to contact .
"In the past ten years [OC] has grown to include a broader spectrum of people… more diversity, more socialization…They keep expanding the offerings. We want to have the flexibility of homeschooling, but more things available for our kids. [OC is] riding a wave of tremendous interest. Every year more and more families are joining. It's going to be like a mini university. I like that."
