Jane is a Facilitator in the Tuesday and Wednesday Open Programs and is a resource for reading development questions. Her family joined the OC community in 2004 when her husband Rick was hired. Jane started coming in as a Visiting Artist in 2013.
Jane has been working (and playing) with young people since she was old enough to babysit. She spent her formative teen years babysitting and working at summer camps and day-care centers. Her love of young people led her to major in education in college. Jane earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Kutztown University and taught kindergarten for five years. She then earned a Masters of Education in Reading from Towson University and worked as a Reading Specialist for five years with children in grades K-5. Throughout the 10 years Jane worked in the public school system, she provided staff development, worked as a private reading tutor, and led various youth clubs and afterschool extracurricular activities.
After giving birth to their first child, Jane and her husband, Rick, agreed that she would leave the teaching profession to fulfill her dream of being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.
Jane enjoys spending time with her family, tutoring developing readers, growing and nurturing plants, walking her dog in the park, sewing, creating mosaics, hiking, camping, cooking, and making her home feel inviting and cozy. Her husband, Rick, is a co-director at Open Connections and their two young people both attend programs at OC.
