SUE NAGYFacilitator
Sue is a facilitator in the Open Program on Tuesdays. Through her grandchildren's attending Open Program several years ago, Sue found that the Open Connections philosophy, mission and community resonated with her. She is pleased to have an opportunity to be a part of this special community.
Working with young people has always been a significant part of Sue’s life. She graduated from Penn State University in Individual and Family Studies with an emphasis on Child Development and Home Economics Education. She has enjoyed babysitting, being a summer camp counselor, setting up a summer nursery school for Easter Seals, spending a semester in college working in inner city Detroit with 12 years old boys in an afterschool program, as well as teaching. She taught middle school and high school for a total of 12 years in a very hands-on classroom, creating experiential activities. Sue enjoys working with young people of all ages. She spent 5 years working with 3-year-olds in a weekly mothers-morning-out program. Having a keen interest in living history lead her to develop a living history program involving homeschoolers of all ages. At an historic property in Newtown Square, the young people portrayed 1850 mill workers in an interactive hands-on living history experience for the public school 5th graders. This program grew and changed with input from the homeschoolers involved and has been an annual event for over 20 years. Homeschooling her own daughters from kindergarten through high school graduation gave her the opportunity to enjoy all the many blessings of less traditional schooling. Through those years Sue delighted in the opportunity to partner with her daughters in their exploration and discovery as they pursued their interests. Now, she enjoys many opportunities to be a part of her grandchildren’s learning and loves to have MomMom camp with them! Sue enjoys pursuing her own interests and lifelong learning. She is taking watercolor and drawing classes, enjoying crafts, sewing, cooking, gardening, exercise for functional health, and home decoration (she is also a trained home stager). Most of all she enjoys time with her family and savoring the beauty of nature. |
