Jane is a Facilitator in the Tuesday Open Program, in Thursday Group Tutorial I, and is a resource for reading development support. Her family joined the OC community in 2004 when her husband Rick was hired. Jane started coming in as a Visiting Artist in 2013.
Jane has been working (and playing) with young people since she was old enough to babysit. She spent her formative teen years babysitting and working at summer camps and day-care centers. Her love of young people led her to major in education in college. Jane earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and taught kindergarten for five years. She then earned a Masters of Education in Reading and worked as a Reading Specialist for five years with children in grades K-5. Throughout the ten years Jane worked as a classroom teacher/reading specialist in the public school system, she provided staff development, private reading tutoring, and led various youth clubs and after-school extracurricular activities.
Just before the birth of their first child, Jane and her husband Rick wholeheartedly agreed that she would leave her teaching job to be a stay-at-home mother and homemaker . She rejoined the work force in 2017 as a member of the Open Connections staff and is now working her dream job as a Facilitator.
Jane lives in Media with her husband Rick and their lovely children Ella and Locke. In her free time, Jane enjoys gardening, daily morning walks in the park with her dog and best friend Amy, sewing, making up-cycled creations, hiking, camping, putzing in thrift stores, creating mosaics, crafting, and spending time in her cozy home with her family. Her husband, Rick, is the Interim Executive Director at Open Connections. Their son Locke attends programs at OC. Their daughter, Ella, attended programs at OC from age 4-15 and continues to pursue a path of self-directed learning.
