JANE SLEUTARISFacilitator
Jane’s family has been part of the OC community for almost two decades. She started facilitating as a Visiting Artist in 2013 and now facilitates Group I on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Jane has been spending time with young people since she was old enough to babysit. She spent her formative teen years babysitting and working at summer camps and day-care centers. Her love of young people led her to major in education in college. After earning a BS in Early & Elementary Childhood Education, Jane taught kindergarten for five years. She also earned a Masters of Education in Reading, and worked as a Reading Specialist for five years with children in grades K-5. Throughout the ten years that Jane worked as a classroom teacher/reading specialist in the public school system, she provided staff development, private reading tutoring, and led youth clubs and after-school extracurricular activities. Just before the birth of their first child, Jane and her husband Rick wholeheartedly agreed that she would leave her teaching career to pursue her ultimate dream of being a full-time homemaker and mother to a unschooling family. Jane lives in Media with her husband Rick (Director of Open Connections) and their children Ella and Locke. Jane enjoys daily morning walks in the park with her dog and best friend Amy, sewing, making up-cycled creations, tending her gardens, hiking, camping, putzing in thrift stores, doing projects around the house, creating mosaics, and spending time with her family. Jane and Rick’s son, Locke, currently attends programs at OC, and their daughter, Ella, attended programs at OC for 12 years and continues to pursue a path of self-directed learning. |
