JANE SLEUTARISFacilitator
“A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.” William Arthur Ward
Jane’s family has been part of the OC community for 20 years. She started facilitating as a Visiting Artist in 2013 and now facilitates Open Group on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Jane has been enjoying the company of young people since she was old enough to babysit. She spent her formative teen years babysitting and working at summer camps and day-care centers. Her love of young people led her to major in education in college. After earning a BS in Early & Elementary Education, Jane taught kindergarten for five years. She then earned a Masters of Education in Reading, and worked as a Reading Specialist, with grades K-5, for five years. Throughout the ten years that Jane worked as a classroom teacher/reading specialist in the public school system, she provided staff development, private reading tutoring, and led youth clubs and after-school extracurricular activities. Just before the birth of their first child, Jane decided to leave behind her formal teaching career to fulfill her long time wish of being a full-time homemaker and mother. Jane began working at OC when the youngest of her two children was 8 years old. Working at OC, where children are given the opportunity to learn and create with freedom and ownership, is Jane’s ultimate dream job. Jane lives in Media with her husband Rick (Director of Open Connections) and their children Ella and Locke. Locke is currently in OC’s SYL program and Ella attended OC for 12 years before becoming a student at the University of Florida. Jane enjoys daily morning walks with her dog and best friend Amy, sewing, making up-cycled creations, tending her plants, hiking, putzing in thrift stores, doing creative projects, making mosaics, and spending time with her family. |
