Makayla "Kayla" Brockway
Facilitator
Makayla facilitates in the Open Program four days each week. She is an OC alumna, who started in the Open Program at the age of 4 and attended all the way through to Shaping Your Life. For her senior year of high school she decided to transition to a dual enrollment student at Downingtown West High School and Brandywine Valley Technical College High School (TCHS). During this time, she studied Early Childhood Education and graduated from Downingtown West and TCHS when she was 17.
Makayla joined the OC staff in 2021 and she brought with her previous OC facilitation experience. Makayla interned in the Open Program (OP) for 5 years and was an aid in the OP for an additional 2 years. Makayla also helped with the OC aftercare program intermittently for several years. Her experience with youth doesn’t end there: Makayla has over 11 years of experience babysitting, nannying, and as a teacher's assistant. When she’s not facilitating at OC, Makayla works at Lucky Penny Farm in Media. On the farm Makayla is responsible for caring for all of the animals including but not limited to: alpacas, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. She also fosters kittens and has a few of her own “fur children”. In her free time Makayla enjoys crafting, hiking with her dogs, and spending time with family. |
