Rick is the Director of OC. Rick joined the staff in 2004. A wearer of many hats, Rick works to infuse our mission into every aspect of the organization, supports the staff, facilitates in the Choice program, runs most OC community events and oversees the financial side of OC. He has facilitated in most programs, coordinated the creation of the Makerspace.
Rick received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State and an M.B.A. from the University of Delaware.
Rick worked at W.L. Gore and Associates, the maker of Gore-Tex®, for seven years before serving as a Peace Corps volunteer with his wife, Jane, in Macedonia. (Gore is noted for pioneering self-managed work teams.) Upon their return, they moved to Washington, D.C., where Rick worked at the national headquarters of the American Red Cross for three years, after which he found his "dream job" at Open Connections in 2004.
Rick and his wife delight in long walks and deep conversation. He is enjoying teaching his daughter to drive and supporting her as she pursues her self-directed path. Rick savors spending time with his son working through math problems and exploring electronics. Rick is currently reading books by Alan Watts, Marshall Rosenberg (Nonviolent Communication), and Simon Sinek and is looking forward to the time when he can once again experience live music of all kinds. He also enjoys a good joke. Rick and Jane's youth attend or have attended OC.
